What exactly is a fresh pin, and are they really important on Pinterest?
Here’s the short answer: fresh pins are very important! Pinterest has made it clear in 2021 that new, or “fresh,” content is favorable over re-pinned content. Pins perform the best when they are first released, because Pinterest users are looking for exciting new content and don’t necessarily want to see the same things over and over again. If you think about it from the user’s perspective, rather than your as the business owner/creator, you’ll likely agree that it gets old seeing the same pins pop up over and over again on the platform.
What makes a pin “fresh?”
Any number of things! A brand new pin promoting a new blog post is considered fresh. However, you can also create new or fresh pins from existing blog posts, and you can even make adjustments to pins you’ve already created in order to freshen them up and try them out on Pinterest. Here are some suggestions for creating fresh pins from content you already have:
01. Use a new photo
You can take a pin template that you have used in the past and that has worked well for you, and swap out the photo to give it a whole new look. This is a great tip for wedding professionals who have tons of image content stored.
02. Use a new color combination in your graphic
You can take an older pin and change up the color combination you used previously to give it a new spin! Though simple, this change will make your pin considered “fresh.”
03. Use a photo of the same subject, shot from a different angle
This tip is great for bloggers, food bloggers in particular- if you have a pin that has done really well and you’re tempted to just keep re-pinning it, try swapping the primary image (or images) out for one of the same subject, but taken from a different angle.
04. Rearrange the font in the graphic
This sounds simple, but sometimes just trying out a new font combination and rearranging where your text is on your pin will give it a brand new look, and is also considered new and fresh to the Pinterest algorithm! If you’re lacking new images to use, or your pins tend to be text heavy vs. image heavy, try this quick change out.
Not so hard, right?
If you are in the habit of re-pinning the same pins over and over again, I encourage you to take a little bit of time to freshen up your older pins to give them some new life! As you’ve seen here, even just making simple changes creates fresh pins.
